Absolutely, I feel very comfortable walking after dark in town. In fact, the FBI's Uniformed Crime Report consistently shows Folsom has one of the lowest crime rates in the State of California.

City History

Folsom's rich history began with California's great Gold Rush, as gold was discovered in the area known as Negro Bar. A century later, following a campaign spearheaded by the Chamber of Commerce in 1946, Folsom became a city.


Blue Ravine Road divides "older" Folsom from "newer" Folsom. The area south of Blue Ravine has a more modern feel to it, while the northern area is historically oriented. Folsom is a coveted town for family raising and suburban lifestyle in general, but if your family is looking for an upscale environment, Granite Bay and El Dorado Hills offer that.

City Safety

Folsom is protected by the Folsom Police Department and the Folsom Fire Department. The city experiences a very low crime rate, a majority of which are property crimes.
